Update: It dropped below $70 on Amazon, so I just ordered another Seiko 5. All is right with the world.
I had this, and I loved it. But, apparently they’re $90 on Amazon now, which I’m not paying for a watch that was $50 when I bought it.
I also have a Master Control, but I don’t wear it much, because I have a tendency to smash my wrists into things. Also, I managed to completely lose this cheap Seiko watch, so I can’t be trusted with nice things.
What I’m looking for:
Under $100, so I can lose and or break it without feeling bad.
Earth tone or it has a face that will allow for a green or brown nylon/NATO strap.
Minimal or no branding.
I loved the Seiko, because the idea of a sub-$100 automatic is cool—even if it lost time like a stoner—but it doesn’t have to be an automatic.
My first thought is just this cheap Weekender, but I’d be interested in something more obscure.

I love my Seiko5, glass is getting pretty scratched but the size and auto is just perfect. I’ve tried looking at the skx009 Diver but it’s huge compared to this little one.

to see what you find.

Sounds like the old 5 was perfect. I'd keep an eye out, they're for sale everywhere, you can find them for cheap. Otherwise, maybe a g shock? The dw5600lu-8 is just over 100 and comes with a tan two price NATO already

It’s such a great little watch. I’m really tempted to just buy it again, but it’s hard to justify paying almost double, especially if the price is due to them cutting production if there’s going to be an update .
Size is definitely a concern. I really don’t like anything over 40mm.

My hope is that it’s just a normal fluctuation in the price. The first time I looked at them, they were close to $100 and then dropped off significantly. Given that they haven’t changed since 2012, I’m guessing that Seiko is replacing them and cut production.
I’d prefer an analog , but that G-Shock is tempting, especially in that color; I’ve wanted one since I was a kid.

I had that weekender with a blue NATO. Did not like it one bit, it just felt too cheap

I love that in blue, but I wear a lot of brown and green, so neither of the faces would work with a earthier strap.

That’s kind of what’s holding me back. The Seiko was nice because it didn’t feel as cheap as it was.

Im an analog guy too, but g a couple g shocks tempt me. They can take a hell of a beating. Another brand to consider would be vostok. Kinda like the Russian seiko

Would you be interested in a DW5600?
At $100 you can have them with different colored bands and faces. Ooh and they are indestructible.

I’m digging the second one. Do you have any experience with Casio solar watches? I had a Citizen that was awful and kind of ruined solar watches for me.

I’ve had one Solar G shock in the past. It lasted quite a few years, don’t expect them to last decades given the cheap price.

I recommend Fossil. Sure they’re a fashion brand, but they have good quartz movement, they look good, the warranty is 11 years, and they don’t bitch about owning up to it if something goes wrong. They are in the $100 range.
Whenever I go by the Fossil store, they will also cheerfully change my battery for me, free.

I have the same watch that I got for $13 back when you could buy stolen stuff off Ebay. Came straight from the factory with a box and everything.
I fixed watches while in college. The cheap shit is cheap shit, unless it is stolen. I stopped buying fancy watches after I smashed by a utomatic Tissot that I bought in Switzerland. I always end up breaking the fancy shit I buy.

How about this fairly recent Bulova? I have a similar one in rose gold that I bought new, rarely wear it, but it is a decent quality watch for the price. And I think it would look decent with a NATO strap, the stock leather band isn’t the greatest quality anyway.

They’re not the most obscure or sexy brand, but they are damn fine watches for the price, and a nice classic design is always going to be in fashion.

Russian Vostok watch has been to space and is an ak47 you can beat on working on the car. Antimagnetic and takes nato straps and seiko bezels if you wish to hotrod it a bit.

I like those cheap weekenders except they don’t have the date which bugs me.... I bust/loose/destroy/etc watches every 4-5 months so I just get inexpensive Amazon special Timex....

These price variations are where camelcamelcamel would be nice, except they’ve been down for the past week with a major server failure.

Not sure if they’re still obscure, but Skagen is pretty neat.
I was assuming the prices I saw were Canadian dollars but if they’re US they might be a bit outside of budget, but will likely fall within if you find used ones.
Also, having just looked up these watches, it seems like you’re really buying their design but otherwise these are not fancy watches in terms of movement or quality.

My mom gave me a Seiko dive watch ten years ago. It’s my favorite watch, but it cost me $80 to get the automatic movement repaired a couple years ago, and a few months later the movement stopped completely after I hit my wrist against a steel door .
I might get something else, maybe a Timex Weekender.
